Maui rescue, ocean safety officials rescue woman, girl off Kaanapali
Two women tourists from Florida swimming off the shore of Maui’s Honua Kai Resort in Kaanapali got into trouble Thursday and had to be rescued by fire rescue and ocean safety officials.
Maui Fire Department spokesman said the two women — ages 12 and 20 — were about 75 yards off the Maui beach and were trying to return to shore on a raft when they called for help at 4:14 p.m.
A resort beach attendant witnessed the swimmers having difficulty getting back to shore and called police. A rescue ski brought the women back to shore. They did not need medical attention.
