Motorcyclist dies after crashing into wall
A 40-year-old Honolulu man died Monday after the motorcycle he was operating crashed into a rock wall near Ko Olina.
According to police, the motorcyclist was riding west on Aliinui Drive at 12:09 p.m. when he lost control while going around a bend in the road and struck the rock wall.
The man had been riding with another motorcyclist, who was ahead of him, said Lt. Robert Towne of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.
When the other rider looked back, she saw the man down and surrounded by motorists who had stopped to help him, he said.
Paramedics took the man in extremely critical condition to Pali Momi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1 p.m.
Police closed the offramp from Farrington Highway westbound to Aliinui Drive and the Ko Olina Resort area following the crash and reopened it at about 3:30 p.m.
This was the 14th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 16 at the same time last year.
