No tsunami threat from Solomon Islands earthquake
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there’s no tsunami threat from a magnitude 6.5 earthquake near the Solomon Islands early this morning.
The earthquake struck at 1:20 a.m. Hawaii time and was centered about 24 miles southwest of Guaddalcanal at a depth of 14.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
There were no initial reports of serious damage or injuries.
