A state judge on Monday sentenced one of two men who admitted their roles in the brutal, fatal beating of an 85-year-old woman to 25 years in prison.
Circuit Judge Richard Pollack sentenced Cody Mikami, 23, to 20 years in prison for the beating, plus five years in a separate case for stealing an expensive koa vase from a store at Ward Warehouse.
Mikami agreed to the 25-year sentence when he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the Jan. 21, 2010, beating of Mary Lee Koskinen and guilty to assault for the vicious attack on Koskinen’s live-in caregiver. Mikami also pleaded guilty to robbery.
Koskinen died from her injuries two weeks after the attack in her Waialae Nui home.
The caregiver, a 40-year-old man, suffered critical injuries.
The other man to admit his role in Koskinen’s death and the caregiver’s injuries, Zachary Robinson, is scheduled for sentencing Monday.
Robinson, 21, has agreed to accept a 30-year sentence.
Both men were facing second-degree murder and first- and second-degree attempted murder charges.
