Ewa Beach man charged in apparent road rage incident
Prosecutors have charged the motorcyclist who allegedly fired a handgun, shooting at the ground, Wednesday afternoon after being confronted by a motorist’s family member in Waimanalo.
Brandon Abiva, 21, was charged today with first-degree terroristic threatening and first-degree reckless endangering. His bail was set at $35,000.
The Ewa Beach man was one of three motorcyclists who had been involved in a traffic incident on the H-3 freeway Wednesday afternoon that prompted a woman motorist to call family members, who followed the motorcyclists to Waimanalo.
In Waimanalo, one of the woman’s relatives, a 33-year-old man, got involved in a verbal argument on the street with Abiva, police said. The motorcyclist allegedly pulled a handgun out of his backpack and threatened to shoot the man.
The relative then got into the car driven by a 42-year-old man. The motorcyclist pursued the car, fired several shots into the ground, and then fled, police said.
Shortly after the shots were fired, at about 4 p.m., police spotted Abiva on Kalanianaole Highway, near Keolu Drive, as he was stopped in traffic. Abiva tried to maneuver his motorcycle around police cars, allegedly damaging two of them. Police apprehended him as he attempted to flee the scene on foot.

Two years ago, Abiva was convicted of second-degree robbery, a Class B felony. He was sentenced to five years’ probation and a one-year suspended sentence.
