Medical Examiner identifies man who died after bus accident
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 67-year-old Nanakuli man who died after being hit by a city bus on Farrington Highway Saturday morning.
Filipo Tui died from his injuries at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center Saturday.
Tui, who suffered from dementia, was on the makai shoulder when he wandered into the roadway as a bus was passing him in the town-bound direction near Hakimo Road in Nanakuli at 5:53 a.m., police said.
The bus hit him and he fell backwards, hitting his head and causing severe head injuries, police said.
The Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division is investigating.
Police said about 15 to 20 people were on the bus at the time. The driver, a 41-year-old woman, stopped and reported the incident.
