UH sailors place second in California race

The Hawaii coed sailing team finished in second place behind host Stanford at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race on Sunday in Redwood City, Calif.

The Rainbows went 15-6 during the two-day regatta, which had 10 schools competing. Stanford was 20-1.

Vulcans finish eighth at Pioneer Shootout

Kristen Sawada shot an 81 on the final day of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout to place 10th individually, leading the Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team to an eighth-place finish on the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo, Calif., on Sunday.

Sawada shot 161 overall, while teammate Nyssa Aoki (84) tied for 11th place by finishing another two strokes back. The Vulcans finished at 672, 30 shots behind host and winner Cal State East Bay.
