1. Dress up wee ones in adorable aloha shirts
The vintage look of these toddler aloha shirts with mandarin-style collars from Coradorables is what caught my eye at L’il Nell’s boutique at the Kahala Hotel & Resort. Cora Spearman, founder of Coradorables, also offers dresses, rompers and knit hats inspired by her daughter, Izzabelle, and friends’ children. Not to be redundant, but they are adorable! The "Vintage Honolulu" shirt and ribbon dress ($30 each) are available at the hotel boutique and by phone order at 782-4267, and will be available at Hilo Hattie in May. Visit www.coradorables.com and look for special offers at www.facebook. com/Coradorables. — Nina Wu
2. Find gluten-free treats at The Patisserie
I’m usually a glass-half-full kind of gluten-free gal, but sometimes the yearning for a turkey sandwich can bring me down. Sandwiches have literally crumbled in my hands when I’ve used the nongluten bread sold from the freezers at health food stores. But at The Patisserie, chef Richard Wagner bakes up rustic white, garlic-herb and hearty whole-grain breads ($6), a long list of pastries ($2.25) and chocolate-chip and linzer cookies ($2) for folks who can’t tolerate gluten. Bread is baked weekly; a selection of desserts is available daily at The Patisserie locations downtown at 1164 Bishop St. (548-5005), Ward Warehouse (596-2186) or Waimalu Shopping Plaza (484-1297). — Joleen Oshiro

4. Sip on superfoods with tasty recipes from ‘Smoothie Lady’
I’ve been trying to eat healthier but haven’t switched to a completely vegetarian lifestyle. So when a friend asked me to attend a Vegetarian Society of Hawaii meeting nearly a year ago, I was hesitant. But that’s where I was introduced to Robyn Openshaw, known as the "Green Smoothie Lady," and I’ve been a fan ever since. I got myself a new blender and now enjoy green smoothies of kale, collard greens, Swiss chard and berries for breakfast. Openshaw’s website is filled with healthful tips, recipes and more. 5. Magnets offer security, whimsy at home or work
These 2- to 3-inch animals from Made by Humans sport powerful magnets that hold photos in place on my desk with whimsical charm. But they would also be perfect for securing recipe cards when hustling around in the kitchen. Available in a variety of styles for $8 from Paperie at Kahala Mall. — Donica Kaneshiro
