Memorial on July 27 for late Honolulu police chief Douglas Gibb
A memorial service for former Honolulu Police Chief Douglas Gibb will be held July 27 at Borthwick Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. and the memorial will begin at 6 p.m.
Gibb, 72, died July 1 in Des Moines, Iowa, after a battle with cancer. He and his wife, Melanie, had retired to Iowa in 1998 to be near their daughter and grandchildren.
Gibb was Honolulu police chief from 1983 to 1989. He was born in Makaweli, Kauai, and graduated from Punahou School in 1958. He was a longtime resident of Kaaawa.
He is survived by his wife Melanie, son Glenn K., daughter Diane G. Lahodny, brother Charles E., sister Christina E. Moore and three grandchildren.
