Suspect arrested in Waimanalo robbery
Police arrested a 29-year-old Kahaluu man who allegedly robbed a man in Waimanalo on Monday morning.
Police said a man approached the victim, 56, and other family members and demanded their belongings at 11:32 a.m. Police found the suspect on Kalanianaole Highway about an hour later and arrested him on five warrants and for investigation of second-degree robbery and unauthorized entry into a vehicle.
Man dies 3 days after being found in ocean
A man who apparently suffered a medical condition while kayaking off Castle Point on Friday has died.
Police said the man, 36, died at 12:29 p.m. Monday at a hospital. He was found unresponsive in or near a one-man kayak in the ocean at about 10:15 a.m. Friday. He was pulled from the water and taken to the hospital in critical condition by emergency services personnel.
Police classified the case as an unattended death. Officials on Tuesday did not disclose the man’s name and other information regarding his death.
Investigators seek cause of Waikiki blaze
Fire investigators were trying to determine the cause of an early morning fire Tuesday that did about $50,000 in damage to a Waikiki condominium.
The fire was reported at 12:13 a.m. on the 26th floor of the Ala Wai Apartments at 2121 Ala Wai Blvd.
Forty firefighters brought the blaze in the two-bedroom apartment under control in about 20 minutes.
The fire was contained to the unit. No other units in the 42-story building sustained water or smoke damage. The unit was unoccupied as the owners are out of state, a Fire Department official said.
