Fair, talk will cover bees and farming
Learn about bees and organic farming Tuesday at the free "A Summer Bee Organic Fair" at Mission Memorial Auditorium, next to Honolulu Hale.
Beekeepers and local farmers will present displays, and at 6 p.m., City Councilman Tom Berg will moderate a panel discussion exploring the need for bee research and food sustainability.

The popular "Hawai‘i Book of Rice: Tales, Trivia and 101 Great Recipes" is now in its second printing, and Watermark Publishing is offering the book for a special pre-order price of $12 (it’s regularly priced at $15.95) through Aug. 31.
This is great not just for the publishing house, but for the Hawaii Foodbank as well, because a portion of sales will benefit the organization.
The book by Cheryl Chee Tsutsumi received the 2012 Honorable Mention Award in the Hawai‘i Cookbook division from the Hawai‘i Book Publishers Association. It includes appetizer, entree, side-dish and dessert recipes contributed by people ranging from home cooks to the islands’ top chefs.

Williams-Sonoma teaches cooking
Williams-Sonoma in Ala Moana Center is taking reservations for its cooking classes.
Besides the free hourlong weekly technique classes, held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sundays, the store also offers the cooking classes for $45 and cookbook club classes for $75. All classes run 6 to 8 p.m. Call 951-0088 for registration.

Mangofest returns to Hawaii island
The fourth annual Mango Festival returns to the Keauhou Beach Resort on Hawaii island July 28 and 29.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can enjoy mango-themed desserts and drinks, plus fresh produce.

Maui-grown coffee will be celebrated
The Shops at Wailea on Maui will host the first Grown on Maui Coffee Festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4.
Co-sponsored with the Maui Coffee Association and Maui County Farm Bureau, the festival will offer the community an opportunity to interact with island coffee growers as well as an array of brews for sampling.
