Free conference brings professor, musician to Oahu
The Alec & Belle Waterhouse Lecture Series, a Christian ministry of Waialae Baptist Church, will present "The Spiritual Disciplines for the Purpose of Godliness" with seminary professor Don Whitney on July 27 and 28 at OlaNui! Church.
The free conference will be held at 760 Halekauwila St. in Kakaako. It will feature Whitney, senior associate dean at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and musical guest Zac Hicks.
On July 27 a pre-conference session will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first 50 people to register will receive a free copy of Whitney’s book, "Family Worship," and Hicks’ latest CD, "Without Our Aid." Lunch will be provided.
The event continues July 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., with Hicks leading worship from 8 to 9 p.m.; and on July 28, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Whitney and Hicks will also appear at Waialae Baptist Church on July 29 for its Sunday school at 8:45 a.m. and worship service at 10 a.m.

Desmond Tutu lecture moves to larger venue
The Cathedral of Saint Andrew is moving a free public lecture next month by Archbishop Desmond Tutu to a larger venue on the church grounds because of strong public interest in the upcoming visit of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
The Peggy Kai Memorial Lecture at 10 a.m. Aug. 4 will now be held in the cathedral instead of Tenney Theatre. The theater will be used if there is an overflow crowd, and people inside will hear a live audio feed.
Reservations are required. Tickets, limited to two per request, may be reserved by contacting the cathedral at 524-2822 or at www.tutuatthecathedralofstandrew.org. The lecture is one of five public events to be held with Tutu in Honolulu in early August.
