RIMPAC exercises pre-empt Bellows fun

"Residents and visitors are also advised that day use of the park, including swimming and picnicking, will not be allowed during the RIMPAC exercises due to public safety concerns," the city said.
Camping permits will be issued for the weekend of July 20-22. Contact the department’s Permits Office at 768-3440.
Council vote honors former city employee
The City Council voted Wednesday to name the theater at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve as the Cynthia M. Bond Memorial Theater in honor of the late city employee.
Bond, who died at 64 in 2008 of cancer, spent more than 30 years in the Department of Human Resources, formerly the Department of Personnel. She was a longtime deputy director of the agency, and became its director under former Mayor Jeremy Harris.
She and her husband, former parks official Robin Bond, were key in establishing an education program and visitor center at Hanauma Bay, largely to help preserve the reef there. She went on to be a volunteer docent at the center following her retirement, and also served as a volunteer for a number of nonprofit causes.
