Visitor hurt while snorkeling
A 50-year-old Northern California man was found unconscious Wednesday afternoon in waist-deep water at Hanauma Bay, an Ocean Safety Division official said.
The man was snorkeling with his family when one of them saw he was unresponsive about 15 feet offshore and alerted lifeguards, Ocean Safety Operations Chief Jim Howe said.
He was taken by ambulance in critical condition to an area hospital, Emergency Medical Services personnel said.
EMS received the call at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii is assisting the family. The man is traveling with his son and another relative.
Salt Lake man faces sex charges
A Salt Lake man will be arraigned Monday in Circuit Court on charges that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl.
An Oahu grand jury indicted Kenen Kenep, 44, on Tuesday on two counts of first-degree sexual assault.
Kenep’s bail is $30,000, and he is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. Police arrested Kenep June 20.
Kenep allegedly went into the girl’s bedroom in a Salt Lake apartment while she was asleep about 8 a.m. June 18 and sexually assaulted her while her mother was not at home.
Escaped teen back in facility
A 15-year-old escapee returned to a Kapolei private health facility where he had been reported missing 10 days ago.
Police said the boy left the facility on June 17. He returned Tuesday and police arrested him for suspicion of second-degree escape.
Suspect sought in car shootings
Police are looking for a man who witnesses said fired a weapon several times at passing vehicles on Oneawa Street in Kailua on Tuesday night.
Witnesses told police that they heard gunshots just before 9:30 p.m.and saw a man shooting at passing vehicles. The man was gone by the time police arrived.
Police opened a first-degree reckless endangering case.
Man found dead is identified
Police released the identity of a 40-year-old man whose body was found Tuesday on Kuhio Highway on Kauai.
Govinda Jaya Bonderov of Wainiha was found near his sports utility vehicle.
The case has been classified as an unattended death.
