Queen’s gets $1M donations for expansion
The Queen’s Medical Center has launched its first-ever capital campaign to raise money for an expansion of its West Oahu campus.
As part of the campaign, the James and Abigail Campbell Family Foundation donated $1 million, while the James Campbell Co. gave $200,000 to support the opening of the hospital and return of emergency services in the growing community. In addition, Joanna Sullivan donated $1 million in honor of her late husband, Maurice J. "Sully" Sullivan, co-founder of Foodland Super Markets.
The Queen’s Health Systems, which acquired the defunct hospital from St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii in December 2012, plans to reopen the facility in early 2014. It is spending $73.2 million for the purchase and renovation of the former Hawaii Medical Center West hospital in Ewa, which closed in December 2011.
The Queen’s Medical Center-West Oahu will nearly double the capacity of its emergency and operating departments.

Vendors wanted for Cool Kailua Nights
Organizers of the fifth annual Cool Kailua Nights health and wellness block party are seeking vendors of both food and non-food items for the event on Oct. 12.
