Fetus found in box left at Aiea park
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy today on a fetus found in an Aiea park Thursday morning.
Police said the fetus was found by a man collecting recyclable materials at Napuanani Park at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. The man found a box, discovered the fetus when he opened the box at home and called police.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said this is a rare occurrence. Anyone with information may call police by either dialing 911 or calling the Criminal Investigation Division at 723-3609 or 723-3577 after hours.
Woman hit by truck succumbs to injuries
Police said a 49-year-old woman critically injured in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday morning in Waipahu died Thursday afternoon.
Police said a pickup truck, possibly red, struck the woman at Paiwa and Puloku streets as she was heading for a city bus. The woman was crossing Paiwa Street outside a marked crosswalk at about 6 a.m., police said.
The driver reportedly stopped and then drove off, police said.
The woman, identified by Hawaii News Now as Cecilia Ramirez, was taken in critical condition with head and internal injuries to a hospital, where she died at 12:16 p.m. Thursday, police said.
