Responding to numerous complaints, city crews began removing tents and other items belonging to Occupy Honolulu protestors and homeless from the sidewalks fronting South Beretania Street at Thomas Square around 8 a.m. this morning.

Crews from the City Facilities Management Department assisted by city parks officials tagged the items on Tuesday using a 2011 personal storage property law which forbids storage of personal items on city property. The items confiscated today will be held at Halawa for 30 days before being destroyed.

City crews also power washed the sidewalks after the tents and other items were removed.

Occupy Honolulu protestors have camped on the sidewalks of South Beretania Street in front of Thomas Square since November 2011.
