A 19-year-old man found guilty of second-degree murder in the beating death of taxicab driver Charlys Ty Tang was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario sentenced Kilani Derego today. A state jury found Derego guilty of the fatal beating of Tang, a native of Cambodia. Michael Robles is serving a 20-year prison term for his role in the death. 

Sometime after 1 a.m. on May 1, 2010, a bystander found Tang badly beaten and unconscious in the Times Super Market parking lot in Waipahu. 

Tang had picked up two passengers in Waikiki and drove them to Times when an argument ensued over the fare.

Tang died that day, his 41st birthday.
