North Shore crash leaves dozens without power, driver hospitalized
Traffic on Kamehameha Highway near the Malaekahana State Recreational Area will be contraflowed most of Sunday, and more than 40 customers remain without power following an overnight crash, Hawaiian Electric Company reported.
Hawaiian Electric said the initial power outage affected roughly 3,000 customers until around 2 a.m.
Power is expected to be restored to the remaining 40 customers in the immediate area surrounding the pole by the end of Sunday.
The accident occurred around 12:45 a.m. when a driver allegedly drove into a pole, causing it to fall into the street, according to Hawaiian Electric.
The driver, a man in his 30s, was hospitalized in serious condition following the crash, Emergency Medical Services said.
