Man in critical shape after nearly drowning
A man in his 40s was taken to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday morning after being pulled from the water fronting the Hawaiian Electric Co. Kahe power plant.
The city Emergency Medical Services Division said the incident occurred at 10:31 a.m. on the beach at Farrington Highway near the power plant.
2 teenagers arrested in Ewa golf cart theft
Officers caught two teenage boys in a stolen golf cart in Ewa on Monday, police said.
The boys, ages 15 and 16, were seen in the golf cart that had been stolen earlier in the day, police said.
Officers arrested the boys, after witnesses identified them, on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.
Registered sex offender to face court
A Kauai man is scheduled to appear in District Court today on charges he did not comply with requirements for the sex offender registry.
Bernard Almeida Jr., 59, of Koloa was arrested Thursday and charged with 14 felony counts of noncompliance. He is a registered sex offender who has failed to register since August of last year, police said. He is being held at the Kauai Community Correctional Center in lieu of $13,000 bail.
State law requires registered sex offenders to keep their registration information, including contact information, updated and accurate, police said. Failing to do so is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment for each violation.
