A police officer was injured in a collision with a pickup truck that witnesses said ran a red light at the intersection of Beretania Street and Ward Avenue at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A Honolulu police officer was treated and released at the Queen’s Medical Center on Tuesday morning after the patrol car she was driving was hit at an intersection near the main police station on Beretania Street.
Witnesses told police that a man driving a pickup truck ran a red light at Beretania Street and Ward Avenue and hit the marked patrol car.
The police car was traveling west on Beretania Street when the collision happened just before 5:30 a.m.
The truck, a silver Nissan Frontier crew cab pickup, was traveling mauka on Ward Avenue when the 21-year-old male driver allegedly ran a red light.
Police were also investigating to learn whether the man was driving while impaired.
The officer was taken to the hospital for observation, police said.
