Scientists at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory say  lava flows are sporadically entering the ocean at several locations along the flow front.

Prior to this weekend, the last sustained ocean lava entry was observed on  December 17.

Scientists observing webcams overlooking the flow began seeing weak steam plumes from lava entering the ocean on Friday. The ocean entry continued, off and on, through this morning when a new plume was seen at the westernmost edge to  the flow.

The flow is about a half-mile wide and extends from about the mid-point of the coastal plain below the pali to the easternmost boundary of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
