City identifies tree trimmer killed by fall
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the 48-year-old tree trimmer who died after falling 30 feet out of a tree in Maili late Saturday morning as Venancio Domingcil.
Paramedics were called to an empty lot on Paakea Road about 11 a.m. Saturday, the city Department of Emergency Services said. Domingcil was taken in extremely critical condition to a hospital, where he later died.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
Man surrenders in homemade bomb blast
Police arrested an 18-year-old man Saturday night after he allegedly set off a homemade explosive device that damaged a vehicle in an Ewa Beach neighborhood.
Police said the suspect sustained minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The suspect turned himself in to officers investigating the scene, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage.
Holiday sentiments met by machete threat
Honolulu police arrested a 38-year-old man Saturday after he allegedly threatened a pair of holiday well-wishers with a machete.
According to police, the victims, a 30-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, were part of a group of people waving and shouting holiday greetings to passing motorists at about noon in the Ala Moana area. The suspect allegedly told the group to be quiet and waved a machete at them in a threatening manner.
Police located the suspect nearby about 50 minutes later and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
