Successor for Tsutsui sought
WAILUKU, Maui » Maui County Democrats say any Democrat in "good standing" and who lives in Senate District 5 — which includes Wailuku, Waihee, and Kahului — is welcome to apply for the seat vacated by state Sen. Shan Tsutsui. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday.
Tsutsui, 41, became Hawaii’s new lieutenant governor Thursday. As Senate president, he was first in line for the job when the previous lieutenant governor — Brian Schatz — was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye.
Interested applicants must fill out a "Statement of Candidacy" form and send in a one-page resume and a short statement.
