The Hawaii men’s basketball team was outplayed in all phases in an 88-59 loss against Cal Poly today in San Luis Obispo, Calif., keeping the Rainbow Warriors winless on the mainland this season.

UH (10-9, 4-4 Big West) was dealt its fourth loss in five games, and its worst by margin of loss (29 points) this season. It fell to 0-4 in mainland games.

Cal Poly (8-9, 4-3) snapped a three-game slide and extended its conference home winning streak to eight games. The Mustangs led by 12 at halftime and went on a 15-3 run coming out of the break to bury the ‘Bows.

Poly shot 56 percent overall and connected on 11 of 25 3-pointers (44 percent). It outrebounded UH — a top-20 team in the country in rebounding margin entering the game — by a whopping 38-21.

UH’s top two scorers on the season, Christian Standhardinger and Vander Joaquim, were held to two points between them at halftime. Standhardinger scored 14 in the second half, but Joaquim finished with season lows of two points and one rebound.

Isaac Fotu and Standhardinger led UH with 14 points apiece. Brandon Jawato added 12 off the bench.

UH was outplayed in the first half, but got a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Jawato to make it 38-26 at the break.

The Rainbow Warriors’ previous worst losses of the season were by 15 points, to Miami (Fla.) and Ole Miss in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. 

Cal Poly won its third straight game in the series.
