State to improve Hawaii County highway
The state will spend $600,000 for safety improvements to Mamalahoa Highway in the Puuwaawaa area of Hawaii island.
The improvements, scheduled to begin in July and be completed in December 2014, will include designing an underground drainage system to help rain runoff from flowing across the highway. The system will include drain lines, grated drop inlets and a drainage basin. Related improvements in the area include a retaining wall and realigning the roadway to improve safety.
