Hawaii’s second annual Triple Crown of Tennis kicks off June 24 with the University of Hawaii Men’s Night Doubles Tournament.
The men’s circuit continues with Oahu Club Men’s Night Doubles (July 8-14) and Kailua Racquet Club’s Blue Moon Men’s Night Doubles (July 22-Aug. 4).
The first two events have a $1,000 purse. Blue Moon offers a $7,500 purse.
Registration deadline for the UH tournament is June 13. It ends June 30.
Jan Axel Tribler and Mikael Maatta won all three titles last year, earning a place in the main draw of the Honolulu Challenger. The 2013 Honolulu Challenger is in January.
The women’s Triple Crown is in the fall, with Oahu Club (Oct. 21-27), UH (Oct. 28-Nov. 3) and KRC (Nov. 7-10) hosting.
It’s now a tennis festival
This year, Tennis Weekend has morphed into a Tennis Festival at the Oahu Club, Oct. 5 and 6. There will be a Team Tennis Challenge opening night and a series of clinics and exhibitions the final day. The list tentatively includes Zumba, Cardio Tennis, stroke stations, doubles, Beat the Pro and kids tennis.
The annual U.S. Tennis Association/Hawaii Pacific Section Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame is at Ala Moana Hotel that night. The following day is Children & Youth Day at the State Capitol.
Photo can earn a free trip
The USTA is offering a trip for four to next year’s U.S. Open for the winner of the USTA Create your Tennis Court Photo Contest. The national sweepstakes invites participants to upload a photo of their best and most innovative home court set-ups for a chance to win. The winner will be selected by public vote.
The contest is to promote 10 and Under Tennis. It runs through September, with Phase 1 (photo upload) going on now through July 4.
Entries can be submitted to createyourowntenniscourt.com. The top 10 photos will be selected and the finalists will be placed in a photo gallery on the site for consumers to view and vote.
To encourage consumers to vote, USTA will offer a second sweepstakes during the second phase with U.S. Open hats given out weekly.
