Baravilala earns rugby honor
Honolulu’s Bui Baravilala was named the player of the tournament at last weekend’s Amsterdam Cup, an international women’s 7s rugby tournament in the Netherlands
Baravilala, a Radford High graduate, helped Team USA go 3-0 in its pool. The Women’s Eagles 7s then defeated Spain and reigning world champion Australia to reach the final against Canada.

Jackpot title to Uechi-Won
Kiana Uechi-Won won six events en route to the all-around title of last Saturday’s HWRA Jackpot Ranch in Waimanalo.
Uechi-Won placed first in 3D, open and novice horse barrels, as well as open, novice horse and amateur rider poles. She earned $322.
Second place all-around was Britt Joseph ($126.40), with Brandy Joseph ($114) third.
Other event winners were: Brandy Joseph (3D poles), Shivanni Stephenson (amateur rider barrels), Jojo Robello (masters barrels), Kuulei Decosta (keiki Barrels) and Kanani Henriques (keiki poles).

Junior lifeguard program coming up
Limited spaces are available for this summer’s Junior Lifeguard Program.
Spots are open at Ala Moana, Kalama, Ehukai and Makaha beach parks. The registration deadline is Tuesday.
The five-day courses are open to males and females, ages 13 to 17, who have strong swimming skills and a desire to learn about ocean safety. Instruction includes beach skills, surf rescue techniques, CPR and first aid.

Badminton tournament is this weekend
More than 50 players from Hawaii and the U.S. mainland are entered in the Honolulu Badminton Club’s inaugural Memorial Day Tournament.
Competition runs today through Sunday at the HBC gym at 1336 Dillingham Blvd.

12th surfski title for Chalupsky
South Africa’s Oscar Chalupsky won an unprecedented 12th Molokai World Surfski Championship Sunday, finishing the 30-mile course from Kaluakoi, Molokai, to Hawaii Kai Towne Center in 3 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds.
Defending champion Clint Robinson, 39, of Australia was 19 seconds behind to place second, with Hawaii’s Patrick Dolan, 23, third in 3:25:42.
Former U.S. Olympian Greg Barton and Hawaii’s Zsolt Svadovski teamed to finish first overall in two-man surf ski (3:21:32). Australia’s Rowena Coghill was the top female (4:21:42).
