Hawaii pros shoot 71 on eGolf Tour
Hawaii’s Parker McLachlin and Tadd Fujikawa both opened with rounds of 71 at Wednesday’s eGolf Tour River Hills Classic.
Fujikawa’s score was 1 under par at Palisades Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. McLachlin was even par at River Hills Country Club in Lake Wylie, S.C.
The leader is South Carolina’s Brian Duncan, who had a 10-under 62 at Palisades. Duncan is a member of the Nationwide Tour.
The golfers in the field of 187 switch courses today in the 72-hole tournament.

» Waikoloa Beach Resort is offering a $35 kamaaina special this Memorial Day weekend (Saturday to Monday). Hawaii golfers can play Waikoloa’s Beach or Kings’ course for $35 plus tax, with a valid Hawaii drivers license. Call 808-886-7888 for information.
» Monday is the first day to register for the Pearl Junior Open, which will be July 25-26. The tournament is open to all juniors, not just members of the Oahu Junior Golf Association, but golfers must be verified as “tournament ready.” Some 20 golfers will come from Japan to compete. » Kauai’s Mary Bea Porter-King is a charter member of the advisory board for Scooter Pines Holdings, LLC, a multi-media company that launched a series of children’s books featuring Bogey Ballton, a golf-ball character. The first book, “Bogey Tees Off: A Lesson About Being Truthful,” was co-written by Dottie Pepper and Scott Fuller. The book will be on sale at the Jr. World qualifier and other junior events this year, with 20 percent of the proceeds going to the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. Porter-King is co-founder and president of the HSJGA.
