Fresno State blasts Hawaii to open WAC tournament
MESA, Ariz. >> Aaron Judge finished a home run shy of the cycle and Fresno State scored six times in the sixth inning to pull away for an 8-2 victory over Hawaii in the first game of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Wednesday at Hohokam Stadium.
The Rainbows (30-24) lost their first game of the double-elimination tournament for the first time since they hosted it in 2009.
Hawaii will play at 8 a.m. on Thursday against the loser of tonight’s game between Louisiana Tech and Nevada.
Collin Bennett went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI and Pi’ikea Kitamura singled twice and scored once to lead UH at the plate.
Jarrett Arakawa (7-6) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings with one walk and three strikeouts.
Judge finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple.
