Forecasters predict Oahu, Kauai drought recovery

The National Weather Service says Kauai and Oahu are more likely to recover from drought during the upcoming rainy season from October through April.

But Maui and the Big Island will have a harder time given how long those islands have been suffering from dry conditions and how intense the drought on those islands has been.

The service said Monday the weather should be wetter than normal in the Hawaiian Islands between January and April of next year.

It predicts the weather phenomenon known as La Nina will continue to influence Hawaii’s weather, though less than it has recently.

La Nina is caused by the cooling of the central Pacific Ocean.
