An 18-year-old Waianae High School student was arraigned this morning in Circuit Court for allegedly stabbing another student during a fight last week at school.

Ikaika Andrade is scheduled to be tried before Circuit Judge Colette Garibaldi beginning March 11 on second-degree assault.

He was initially arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder as well as third-degree criminal property damage for allegedly damaging a vehicle after the assault Friday afternoon. The attempted murder charge was downgraded to second-degree assault when he was charged on Saturday. The criminal property damage charge was later dropped.

Andrade has been held in Oahu Community Correctional Center since the weekend, unable to post $25,000 bail.

He entered a plea of not guilty from the Kalihi facility through a closed circuit video feed.

Police said at 12:23 p.m. Friday two male students began to argue over earphones at Waianae High School. The argument escalated as both men left the classroom and began to fight, police said. 

During the fight Andrade allegedly stabbed the 19-year-old victim. School staff intervened until police arrived and were able to detain Andrade. The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Andrade was convicted of another assault charge in August and will be sentenced on Aug. 19.

He also was sentenced to 6 days confinement after being convicted of third-degree theft in September.
