Women hurt in McCully crash
Two women were seriously injured Saturday when their car sideswiped a series of parked cars near Central Union Church in McCully.
Police briefly closed South Beretania Street between Punahou and McCully streets after the 10:15 a.m. crash. The car, a white sedan, was traveling at a high speed when it crashed into a line of parked cars on the side of the road, according to witness Fred Goya.
All lanes of South Beretania Street were reopened at 11:07 a.m.
The women are 75 and 83, but it wasn’t clear which one was driving.
Boy allegedly broke into vehicle
Police arrested a 13-year-old boy Friday night for allegedly breaking into a man’s unlocked vehicle, which was parked in his open carport in Kalihi.
Police said the break-in occurred at 8:26 p.m.
The man said he parked his vehicle and returned a short time later to find a boy rummaging through the inside of the vehicle. The man then detained the boy until police arrived.
Meanwhile, the boy returned one of the items that had been taken.
He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, and was released pending investigation.
Speed suspected in accident
Speed may have been a factor in a single-car crash in Campbell Industrial Park Saturday that left the passenger critically injured.
Police said the 18-year-old Waipahu man driving a 1999 Honda Accord may have been speeding when his car struck the center median, went over it, slid across the grass and hit a tree.
The front-seat passenger, a 22-year-old Waipahu man, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with blunt-force injuries.
The driver was in serious condition when he was taken to Queen’s.
Police said the accident occurred at 8:54 a.m. in the rain when the car was heading south on Kalaeloa Boulevard 340 feet north of Malakole Street. Police said the driver was wearing his seat belt, but they did not know whether the passenger was.
A portion of Kalaeloa was shut down for 312 hours while police investigated the crash scene.
Inmate released by mistake
Police and state sheriffs are looking for a 51-year-old Oahu Community Correctional inmate who was mistakenly released Friday.
OCCC inmate Edward Robins was released at 4:55 p.m. Friday but was supposed to be released Sept. 13.
Public Safety spokeswoman Toni Schwartz said the error was due to a complication with paperwork.
Robins was serving time for third-degree assault. Anyone who knows Robins’ whereabouts is asked to call police.
