Buffet features vegan feast

A vegan and gluten-free dinner next month will celebrate the fall harvest season.

The Sept. 6 buffet includes minestrone, corn chowder, split pea and curry pumpkin coconut soups; quinoa, lentil and curry rice and roasted root vegetable salads; as well as fruit cobbler, pumpkin bars and mulled cider.

The dinner at 51 Coelho Way, a private estate, runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $18, $10 for ages 8 to 12, and free for those 7 and under.

Jazz up a picnic at benefit event

Fine dining isn’t just for indoor settings. Try a gourmet picnic at La Pietra — Hawaii School for Girls’ 2013 Sunset Jazz benefit Sept. 8.

Chef Eberhard "Hardy" Kintscher of Michel’s at the Colony Surf is creating baskets of chilled tomato bisque, fresh bread, assorted cheeses, grapes, Caesar salad, roasted Jidori chicken, roast beef sandwiches, lobster and crab sandwiches, and Chocolate Decadence Cake. The basket will include a bottle of French red wine. Cost is $120.

If you’re not in the mood for a big meal, $65 tickets to the event include wine, coffee and dessert.

Featured entertainment this year is Grammy Award-nominated singer Sacha Boutros, who joins Jimmy Borges, Shari Lynn and Son Caribe and the All-Star Band.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the school, at 2933 Poni Moi Road, with free shuttle service to and from Waikiki Elementary School.
