Man lying on road dies when run over
A 26-year-old Kailua-Kona man was killed Sunday when a car ran over him while he was lying in the road, Hawaii County police said.
Police arrested the driver of the car, a 39-year-old Kealakekua man, on suspicion of negligent homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was released pending further investigation.
An autopsy will be done.
Police said the incident occurred at 2:53 a.m. on Highway 11 near the junction with Puuloa Road in Kailua-Kona.
The victim was lying in the southbound lane when he was run over by a 2004 Mercedes-Benz driven by the suspect, police said.
This is Hawaii island’s 23rd traffic fatality this year, compared with 30 at this time last year.

Boy seriously hurt in fall from window
A 4-year-old boy was seriously injured when he fell from a second-floor window at a Wahiawa residence Monday afternoon, according to a city Emergency Medical Services Division report.
EMS personnel went to the house on Valley Avenue at 1:17 p.m. and took the boy to a trauma hospital.
Truck backs over man lying in road
A truck backed over a man who was apparently lying on Keaahala Road in Kaneohe on Sunday morning, according to a city Emergency Medical Services Division report.
Paramedics took the 29-year-old man to the hospital in serious condition after the 5:53 a.m. incident.
No other details were available.
Teenager arrested in fight at hospital
Police are investigating an assault by a 17-year-old boy who struck a male health care worker who was trying to break up an argument Sunday morning at a hospital.
The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m., and the 51-year-old victim was off duty at the time of the incident. The juvenile suspect was released pending further investigation.
