Man lying in road run over and killed on Hawaii island
A 26-year-old Kailua-Kona man was killed Sunday when a car ran over him while he lay in the road, police said.
Police arrested the driver of the car, a 39 year-old Kealakekua man, on suspicion of negligent homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
He was released pending further investigation.
An autopsy will be done to determine how Richard Penrose was killed.
Hawaii County police said the incident occurred at 2:53 a.m. on Highway 11 near the junction with Puuloa Road in Kailua-Kona.
The victim was lying in the southbound lane when the he was run over by a 2004 Mercedes-Benz driven by the suspect, police said.

This is the Big Island’s 23rd fatality this year compared with 30 at this time last year.
