Tour offers guests a look at Halekulani Hotel history

Halekulani Hotel tour docent Hi'inani Papapa-Blakesley, right, took guest Pauline Clarke on a tour of the hotel's old main lobby. The hotel has developed a 45-minute guided tour of the five-acre property.

Courtesy Halekulani Hotel Literary Detective Charlie Chan came to life in the former Gray's-By-The-Sea lodge. In 1925, writer Earl Derr Biggers was staying here when he penned the famous novel "House Without a Key," the first in the Chan series. The Halekulani's restaurant, House Without A Key, which sits near this location, is named for Biggers' book.
