Naia Graham kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime to give Kailua a 23-20 win over Castle in a wild and emotional game at the Knights’ field.
Graham’s winning kick came after Castle missed a field goal on its first possession of overtime.
With the score tied at 14 late in the fourth quarter, Castle’s Makana Bee was hit hard and injured. A penalty was called on the play as Bee lay on the turf and was tended to by trainers.
At one point, both teams gathered on the field to honor Bee. He was removed by ambulance and raised his arm and wiggled his fingers. The game was delayed more than 20 minutes.
Then the fireworks began. Jace Iwami scored on a 12-yard run on the first play after the delay, giving the Knights a 20-14 lead late in the game. But the extra-point kick failed.
Jameson White took the ensuing kickoff and weaved through Castle’s return team for a 99-yard touchdown. Kailua also missed the extra point and the score remained tied at 20.
