House hit with incendiary items
Police have begun an arson investigation after two incendiary devices were thrown into a Kaimuki home early Friday morning.
Three people were home when the devices were thrown at a house at Claudine Street and 16th Avenue, near Mau‘umae Nature Park, at about 1:30 a.m. One device broke a jalousie window of a bedroom, and the second landed on the roof.
Police said a dog and a neighbor alerted the occupants to a small fire that started in a bedroom. In the house at the time were a woman, 67, and two men ages 70 and 38. No one was injured.
Police said the fire had been extinguished before firefighters arrived. Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said damage was estimated at $5,000.
2 men arrested after fight
Police arrested two men in Nanakuli, ages 27 and 28, for allegedly threatening a 24-year-old man.
A police sergeant traveling in Nanakuli Thursday witnessed a fight at about 3:15 p.m. on the side of the road.
The sergeant chased the 27-year-old suspect, who was riding a moped, and stopped him nearby. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangering and altering the identification number of a weapon.
Police arrested the 28-year-old man with the same last name and home address on three contempt warrants. Police said their investigation showed that the older man allegedly got to the scene with the gun first and later handed it to the younger man.
Chinese visitor nearly drowns
A visitor from China who could not swim slipped on the reef at Hanauma Bay and fell into about 4 to 5 feet of water at about 12:30 p.m. Friday, nearly drowning.
Emergency Medical Services said when the man was pulled from the water by Ocean Safety personnel he was not breathing but did have a pulse. He began breathing on his own with medical attention and was taken by paramedics to the hospital.
The man, reported to be in his 40s, is in serious but stable condition, according to EMS.
Police sweep nets 36 suspects
The Honolulu Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service and Hawaii Fugitive Task Force arrested 36 people for outstanding warrants and other violations this week during a three-day sweep.
The Oahu-based operation targeted parole or probation violators as well as those with outstanding criminal warrants for drug, firearm or sexual offenses.
According to an HPD release, the individuals arrested were wanted for a total of 47 outstanding warrants. Three were also arrested for additional drug offenses.
