Contaminated harbor is quickly clearing up

The molasses that contaminated Honolulu Harbor was first reported Monday morning but likely began pumping through a faulty pipe last weekend, said Chris Lee, Matson Inc.’s incident commander, during a media tour of the harbor on Saturday.

A cleanup crew collected fewer dead fish on Saturday — about 45, mostly eels and pufferfish. Thousands of fish as well as coral beds have died from the spill.
