EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France >> Mika Miyazato of Japan shot a 6-under 65 to take the lead after the rain-delayed first round of the Evian Championship, the year’s fifth and final major.
The tournament was shortened to 54 holes after Thursday’s play was washed out.
Hawaii’s Michelle Wie is three shots back, tied for sixth, at 68.
Top-ranked Inbee Park got off to a poor start with a 74.
Suzann Pettersen of Norway bogeyed the last hole to fall one shot behind Miyazato, along with Hall of Famer Se Ri Pak of South Korea and Sandra Gal of Germany.
HPU volleyball team suffers first loss
The Hawaii Pacific women’s volleyball team beat San Francisco State in four sets before getting swept by host Sonoma State on the first day of the Seawolf Spike in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Against the Gators (4-2), the Sea Warriors upped their record to 5-0 with a 25-14, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21 victory. Samantha Rummans and Elizabeth Culpepper each had 11 kills, and Pomai Recca added 10 to lead HPU.
In the nightcap, the Sea Warriors saw their perfect season come to an end as the Seawolves (5-1) posted a 25-13, 25-21, 25-23 win. Recca had a match-high 14 kills.
