Haleiwa man who drowned off Turtle Bay ID’d

The drowning death of a 59-year-old Haleiwa man whose body was found in the waters off Turtle Bay Resort has been classified as accidental by the Medical Examiner’s office.

Elwood Plemer died of asphyxiation due to drowning on Aug. 15, the Medical Examiner’s office said. His body was found floating in the ocean at about 5:25 p.m.

He was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition where he died, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.
