Governor gone, all hail the governor
There will be no inaugural ball for David Louie on the occasion of his ascent to the governorship.
But it’s going to be only a few hours that he bears the burden of the office anyway, so it really wouldn’t be worth the cost of renting the tux.
State law dictates that the attorney general is acting governor today. The musical chairs started Tuesday when Gov. Neil Abercrombie took personal leave to visit family in New York. Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz took over until this morning, when he departs for a tourism-promotion trip to Asia. So, the AG takes over, until the gov gets back at 5:30 p.m.
For longer-term vacancies at the top, the No. 3 and No. 4 places in succession go to the Senate president and House speaker, before the AG.
Next up: the director of finance, the comptroller, the director of taxation and the director of human resources development.
Waipahu native kicking it in MLB
Having been blasted at Yankee Stadium in April in his return to the bigs, Waipahu native Jerome Williams has quickly proved that he belongs where he’s at with the Los Angeles Angels.
In New York, 30-year-old Williams lasted less than three innings, causing some observers to wonder if a left hamstring injury was bothering him. Since then, Williams has registered four wins and dropped his earned run average to 3.86, becoming the first pitcher in Angels history to win his first seven home starts when the Angels defeated the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. At this turn, Williams looks like he is destined to remain in the Angels’ rotation spot.
