Man arrested in Kalihi-Palama in ring, watch robberies
A 34-year-old Liliha man allegedly took a pearl ring off a woman’s finger and a watch from a man’s wrist during a mini crime spree Tuesday in the Kalihi-Palama area.
Police said the woman was buying a newspaper in Fuji Market on North King Street when the man grabbed the woman’s arm and took the ring from her finger and then ran away.
About 45 minutes later, a man was jogging on the makai sidewalk of North King Street, about a block from the initial theft, when the same thief grabbed the jogger from behind, placed him in a bear hug, and took a heart monitor watch from the jogger’s wrist, police said.
The thief ran Ewa-bound on North King Street with the victim in pursuit. He allegedly punched the victim before getting away.
Officers found the man near Hiram Lane and Liliha Street. He was identified by both victims and arrested for two counts of second-degree robbery.
