Hawaii island diver who died identified as Pahoa man
A man who died in an apparent drowning off Hawaii island Sunday has been identified by police as Henry Kaawako, 44, of Pahoa.
Puna Patrol Officers responded to a 10:22 a.m. report of a drowning victim on a boat at sea off Kalapana.
Witnesses told police Kaawakoa had been diving off the boat when he was seen floating. His companions took him aboard the boat until Fire Department personnel retrieved his body. He was pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center at 1:30 p.m.
Police said foul play is not suspected. The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.
