Lawmakers raise $9,400 for Hawaii Foodbank
State senators will present the Hawaii Foodbank a check for $9,400 today.
Since February, senators have been holding fundraisers to help address hunger throughout the state.
Highlights include Sen. Mike Gabbad’s “Capitol Idol” talent show and Sen. Clayton Hee’s “Dunk-a-Senator” on the Capitol lawn.
Other senators held bake sales or sold items such as bentos, beef stew and gandule rice breakfasts.
Sen. Pohai Ryan, who chaired the Foodbank drive, says she’s proud of the lawmakers’ offices for volunteering their time to raise money for the cause.
The Senate Clerk and support staff offices raised $1,400. They were topped only by Gabbard’s office, which raised more than $2,100.
