A manhunt for a suspect considered armed and dangerous has ended.

Police arrested James D. Walters III Tuesday night at a Date Street apartment complex.

Police issued a CrimeStoppers bulletin asking for the public’s help in finding Walters, wanted for questioning in connection with armed robberies in Waikiki and Lani­kai.

Police said they believed Walters, 31, was armed with both a handgun and long gun and considered him dangerous. He was driving a 2006 black Chevy Silverado pickup with a crew cab, silver construction racks and the license plate PFV803.

Maj. Richard Robinson, head of HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, said Walters was wanted for questioning in the armed robbery of a family of four visitors walking on the Ala Wai Canal bridge at Ala Moana Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Friday. The robber brandished a handgun and demanded their property.

In another case at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, a man saw a stranger in his parked vehicle on One­kea Drive in the Lani­kai section of Kailua. When he confronted the man, the intruder threatened him with a handgun and fled.

Police are "looking into the possibility" that the same man may have committed other recent Windward-area crimes.

At about 5 p.m. April 18, a woman, 39, reported being kidnapped and robbed by a man who got into her car at Kailua Beach Park and ordered her to drive. He fled after taking her purse, police said.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday, the L&M fast-food plate lunch restaurant in Kaneohe was robbed by a man carrying a rifle.

Walters, who has a Windward Oahu address, does not have a criminal rec­ord, Robinson said.
