Horse dies after attack by pack of dogs
Police were investigating Tuesday the death of a horse Monday night in Waialua.
Police said a witness heard dogs barking at about 9:20 p.m. and saw several of them attacking a horse. When officers reached the scene, several dogs were picked up by the Hawaiian Humane Society. A society spokeswoman said the incident happened at Dillingham Ranch. Police were investigating the cause of the horse’s death.
Officers opened cases involving the liability of the owner of the dogs and first-degree criminal property damage, in this case defined as livestock damage worth more than $1,500.
Police seek help in finding man
Kauai police are asking the public for information on the whereabouts of Michael Scott Brant, 51, who was last seen or heard from March 2 at his job at Dollar Rent A Car in Lihue.
Brant is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair, a medium build and a fair complexion.
Brant is homeless and is known to frequent the area between Wilcox Hospital and Walmart in Lihue, police said.
He drives a 1992 silver/blue Chevy four-door sedan, license plate EXU 610.

County acquires 5 hybrid cars
Hawaii County is getting five Chevy Volt hybrid electric cars for its fleet.
Mayor Billy Kenoi plugged in the first of the vehicles Tuesday during a ceremony at West Hawaii Civic Center, the county said on its website.
Each vehicle cost $47,000, but the county will receive a $4,500 credit for each car through the state’s EV-Ready rebate program.
The county expects the cars will be used by the parks, planning and housing departments.
