Arsonist torches vans near Aala Park, fire investigators say
Police have opened an arson investigation into an early-morning fire Tuesday that destroyed two vans and damaged a third near Aala Park tuesday.
Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman, said when firefighters arrived at a North Beretania street parking lot near the Hawaii USA Federal Credit Union at 1:24 a.m. flames had engulfed a GMC Astro passenger van. The passenger van fire spread to a cargo van that was parked next to it. Also slightly damaged was a delivery van parked nearby.
Firefighters brought the fires under control by 1:30 a.m.
Seelig said fire investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set. No one was injured. There was no immediate damage estimate.
