Convention for law office managers in isles
More than 1,000 people from 15 countries are attending a Honolulu conference for law office managers.
The Association of Legal Administrators 2012 conference began Sunday at the Hawai‘i Convention Center and ends Thursday.
The conference is for legal management professionals who are responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of private law firms, corporate legal departments and governmental agencies.
The event is expected to generate more than $8.2 million in state revenue.

Hospital is due upgrade funds
Kona Community Hospital will receive $5 million in capital improvement project funds from the state for repairs and upgrades, including replacement of elevators, the water sprinkler and chiller systems; re-roofing to repair leaks above the emergency and operating rooms; and upgrades within the emergency room.
The money comes from more than $34.2 million of CIP funds released Thursday by Gov. Neil Abercrombie.
16 officers get promotions
Kauai police promoted six officers Friday to the rank of lieutenant and 10 officers to sergeant.
A ceremony Friday at the Kauai Beach Resort recognized the promotions for the 16 officers.
The following officers were promoted to lieutenant: Paul Applegate, Randolph Chong Tim Sr., Robert Gausepohl, Karen Kapua, Trent Shimabukuro and Todd Tanaka.
Those promoted to sergeant are Darla Abbatiello, Christopher Calio, Christopher Jenkins, Elliott Ke, Anthony Morita, Len Nitta, Daniel Oliveira, Jason Overmyer, Mark Ozaki and Scott Williamson.
Pipe installation will cut water
The Kauai Department of Water has scheduled an outage for part of Lihue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. The shutdown will allow contractor Goodfellow Bros. to connect a newly installed waterline to the existing system.
During the shutdown, customers along Mokoi, Makau, Luina and Upena streets, along with those on the Puhi side of Kapena Street from the Mokoi intersection, will have no water.
